Tonojuyu - Guatemala Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Project
Davie-Cooper City Rotarians:
Since my last email on December 21, 2022, I do not recall receiving an indication if your club will continue its annual support of these life-saving projects. Last Wednesday, my wife and I returned from Guatemala where we participated in the dedication of three more Indigenous Mayan villages funded by Rotary Global Grants, to which your club was a contributor. Attached are photos taken at each village - Agua Caliente, Xetonox and Paxorotot - where dedicatory plaques were installed. Please note your Davie-Cooper City RC is credited on each plaque.
Funds are still needed for the fuel-efficient cook stoves for every household. These are not covered by the GG due to the fact that they are "not directly related to water and sanitation". However, history has shown the benefit of a nearly 60% reduction in eye infections, respiratory ailments and burns due to the installation of these stoves. Furthermore, the stoves burn close to 70% less wood, thus contributing to a reduction in environment damage.
If your club's Program/Speaker Chair has an opening for us to make an update at one of your meetings before we return to our summer home in RI on June 1, please write back with open dates.
If your club is willing to continue its support of these projects, please have your check made payable to: ALDEA and in the Memo Line write: GLOBAL GRANT #2236981. Then mail it to my Florida address below.
Can the 1,281 people in Tonajuyu count on your support?
